comes to Europe: Moorish Spain
•Under Muslim Moorish rule, Spain develops a
sophisticated silk industry by the 11th c.
–an important source of fine silk textile imports for
Northern Europe
–Spain remained a Muslim state until the end of the 15th c.
–Since Spanish textile industry is derived from eastern Muslim textile
centers, its textiles resemble other Islamic textiles in style and technique
