Charlotte Jirousek

Welcome to my home page! I am an associate professor at Cornell University in the Department of Textiles and Apparel. Below you will eventually find links to pages that describe my courses, my research, and other activities.

I teach courses in design foundations and cultural/historical aspects of textile and apparel design. I am especially proud of a very large web site I have created as a textbook for my foundations class TXA 125: Art Design and Visual Thinking.

I am also curator of the Cornell Costume and Textile collection. This link will take you to a fully searchable catalogue of the contents of this Collection as well as a gallery of highlights of the Collection including selected past exhibitions.

Upon request I can provide information about my other courses:

My research has centered around textiles and dress in Turkey, a country I have had ties with for all of my adult life. I am interested in the interaction between east and west in design and dress, and more recently, I have been particularly focused on the rapidly disappearing traditional textile technologies of Turkey. Since Turkey is the center of a region long important in the history of textile design and trade, I feel it is very important to document what is left before it all disappears-as it is rapidly doing. This link will take you to my research and a list of my publications.
